Legal Agreement
Terms of Service
Please read these terms carefully before using Deaf Church Where — the public map, church directory, and related public APIs provided by Deaf Bible Society.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and Deaf Bible Society ("DBS," "we," "us," or "our") for your use of Deaf Church Where, including the map, church profiles, public directory data, and related public APIs (collectively, the "Services").
By accessing or using the Services, you confirm that you:
- Are at least 18 years of age or the age of legal majority where you live
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement
- Are not prohibited from using the Services under applicable law
- Will follow these Terms
If you use the Services for an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” means both you and the organization.
2. Church Content & Published Directory
2.1 Ownership and License to View
The Services, software, design, trademarks, and compilation of directory data are owned by Deaf Bible Society or its licensors. Church-submitted materials remain subject to the rights of DBS and/or the churches that provided them.
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Services for personal, non-commercial viewing and to find churches.
2.2 Restrictions on Directory Data
Without prior written permission from Deaf Bible Society, you may not:
- Sell or commercialize directory data, listings, or content from the Services
- Copy, reproduce, or duplicate directory data in bulk
- Transfer, distribute, or share scraped or bulk-downloaded data with third parties
- Create competing products or services from our directory data
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk download data by automated means
- Remove or hide proprietary notices or attributions
For full rules on artificial intelligence, automated access, scraping, and data export, see our AI, Automated Access & Data Use Policy. To request permission for other uses, email [email protected] with your identity, the data you want to use, the purpose, duration, and whether use is commercial.
2.3 Accuracy and Responsibility
We strive to show published information clearly, but we do not guarantee that listings are complete, accurate, current, or suitable for any purpose. Churches and partners are responsible for what they publish. Use directory information at your own risk.
3. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Services to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Infringe intellectual property or other rights of others
- Transmit malware or harmful code
- Attempt unauthorized access to our systems or networks
- Interfere with or disrupt the Services
- Impersonate Deaf Bible Society or our representatives
- Collect personal information of other users in unlawful ways
- Use the Services for fraud or deception
- Circumvent security or access controls
- Reverse engineer the Services except where law allows
- Use bots or scripts to access the Services without authorization
4. Intellectual Property
"Deaf Bible Society," Deaf Church Where, logos, and related names and designs are trademarks of Deaf Bible Society. You may not use them without prior written permission. Other marks on the Services belong to their owners.
The limited viewing license in these Terms does not allow you to modify materials for commercial use, mirror the site on another server, or reverse engineer software except as permitted by law.
5. User Accounts
This Map does not provide visitor accounts. If you create or use an account on DCW Partners to manage church content, that account is governed by Partners’ terms and practices. You are responsible for keeping any Partners credentials secure.
6. Public APIs & Data Access
The Map may expose public read-only APIs that return sanitized published church data. You agree to:
- Use APIs only for lawful, non-abusive purposes consistent with these Terms
- Respect rate limits and not attempt to bypass access controls
- Not use API access to scrape or rebuild a competing directory without written permission
Data may contain errors. You use API and directory data at your own risk.
7. Third-Party Services
The Services may use or link to third parties such as Mapbox (maps and place search), image hosting, YouTube, Google Maps, social networks, and DCW Partners. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Your use of those services is between you and the third party.
8. Disclaimers
We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free; that defects will be corrected; that the Services are free of harmful components; or that results will meet your needs. Church listings may be incomplete or out of date.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEAF BIBLE SOCIETY AND ITS DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, PARTNERS, AGENTS, SUPPLIERS, AND AFFILIATES ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICES, THIRD-PARTY CONDUCT OR CONTENT, CONTENT OBTAINED FROM THE SERVICES, OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO YOUR TRANSMISSIONS OR CONTENT.
In no event shall our total liability for all claims exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the past twelve (12) months.
10. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Deaf Bible Society and its officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, and suppliers from claims and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your use of the Services, your violation of others’ rights, or content you submit through related services (including Partners).
11. Termination
We may suspend or end your access to the Services at any time, without notice, including if you breach these Terms. On termination, your right to use the Services ends. Provisions that should survive (ownership, disclaimers, indemnity, liability limits) continue to apply. You must stop using the Services and delete any improperly retained proprietary data obtained in violation of these Terms.
12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes should first be addressed through good-faith discussion. If that fails, disputes shall be resolved by binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, unless applicable law requires otherwise. You consent to courts in the United States for any allowed court proceedings.
13. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice when practical, such as by updating this page and the “Last Updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Services.
14. General
If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent needed, and the rest remains in effect. Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and AI, Automated Access & Data Use Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Deaf Bible Society regarding the Services.
